Dear Brothers and Friends,
While I try to time my annual solicitation for tax deductible
contributions to the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at the
University of Denver's Chapter Specific Scholarship Fund ("CSSF"), to
our Fraternity's Founders Day, April 10, I am not always able to do so
and this is another one of those years. At least I am getting it done in
April!
I think all of you know the drill, but before I ask, I want to let
you know that the Endowed Balance in the Gamma Lambda CSSF as of today
is: $16,650.00.
The Foundation Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc., the
Fraternity's IRS Code Section 501(c)(3), public foundation, which is the
recipient and steward of these funds, [and the Board I will serve as
President until this summer, when I have to step down because of the
term limit provision in our By-Laws (2 consecutive four year terms)],
has decided that the income from these endowed funds, which used to be
restricted to books and tuition assistance, can now also be used to
underwrite some of the expense for undergraduate Gamma Lambda Chapter
Brothers to attend the Fraternity's national educational and leadership
programming events, held at various locations throughout the country.
This is a fabulous opportunity for our undergraduate brothers to
not only learn leadership skills to enhance our Chapter on the DU
campus, but those skills will also assist them as they graduate into
"the real world". Believe me Brothers, I served on the faculty and
facilitated many of those leadership schools over the years that I have
been involved on the National level (1993), and those programs are
dynamite!
So, Brothers, I ask you to please consider a donation in whatever
amount is comfortable, I suggest $100.00, (doesn't Theta Chi mean at
least that much to you on an annual basis?), but we have built up our
CSSF with contributions from $25.00 up to and beyond the $100.00 level.
The important thing is that we have built this from -0- and we have done
it together.
If you are willing to participate again this year, or if this is
your first time, please issue your tax-deductible contribution to: "
Foundation Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc." In the: "Memo section"
of your check, please write: "Gamma Lambda CSSF."
Please send the checks to me at:
James J. Moylan
P.O. Box 773506
Steamboat Springs, CO. 80477-3506
I will "bundle" the checks and when we
have a significant number, I will periodically forward the bundles to
the OX, IHQ in Indianapolis, Indiana. Please have your checks to me
before June 30, 2011, so we can count your contribution in the
Foundation Chapter's fiscal year.
Finally, I must note that lately, participation has fallen off.
Last year we had only 9 participants donating a total of $1,000.00. This
is far below what we have done in years past. I know we have to struggle
in this economy, but I feel we are recovering and I hope those who have
sat out in recent years will re-join us and boost our numbers
significantly for this 2011 CSSF solicitation.
Please give this request careful consideration. Let's help those
undergraduate Brothers who now stand on our shoulders bring our Gamma
Lambda Chapter back to its glory days at DU.
Thank you, Brothers.
Fraternally,
JJ
Dear Brothers,
I am a little late with my Gamma Lambda Chapter
Specific Scholarship Fund ("CSSF") solicitation for this year. Work
matters are taking priority.
I am pleased to report that through the generous
contributions of the Gamma Lambda Chapter Alumni Brothers at the
University of Denver, and a sound investment policy, our CSSF
continues to grow. For the 9 months ended March 31, 2010, (2009-2010
fiscal year), our results are:
$ 1,225.00 Contributions
$ 2,047.81 Gain on Investments
$ 3,649.65 Change in Net Assets
$ 17,645.62 Total Net Assets
Once again, Brothers, I am asking each of you to
consider a tax-deductible gift of at least $100 to our CSSF this
year. Those alumnus Brothers who are able to contribute more, your
gift is always warmly welcomed and very much appreciated. Those
alumnus Brothers who cannot contribute at the $100 level, are
encouraged to participate at your comfort level. The important thing
is that we are doing this together. Every dollar counts and every
dollar is invested providing a return. We started the CSSF years ago
and if I recall correctly, we had a little over $1,000 our first
year. Look how we have grown by a consistent annual solicitation and
prudent investment decisions! I am so glad we started when we
did!
The procedure to contribute is the same as in
year's past. Please make your tax-deductible check payable to:
"Foundation Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc." (I trust you know
that I currently serve as President of our national Foundation, so
support from my Chapter Brothers is especially important to me). In
the Memo Section of the check, please write: "Gamma Lambda CSSF".
Please mail the check to me at the address
below. I batch the checks and periodically send them off to the IHQ
in Indianapolis, IN., where they will be acknowledged.

Many of you know that the Chapter while alive and
kicking, is fairly small and we no longer have a house on campus.
Nonetheless, it should be an incentive to giving in this effort,
rather than an impediment. Our undergraduate Brothers on the campus
are working hard to build the Chapter up. By donating this year to
the CSSF, you show the undergraduate Brothers our support as alumni
of a very proud Chapter in Theta Chi Fraternity's history. Indeed,
that we, as a Chapter, have scholarship money available to our
members should help our undergraduate Brothers in their recruitment
("Rush" ) efforts. This, in turn should serve to strengthen our
numbers and, eventually, enable us to have a Fraternity House back
on the University of Denver campus. Something that should be the
goal of every Gamma Lambda Chapter alumnus member.
Thank you Brothers for your consideration of this
request. I have every confidence that you will step up to the
challenge as you always have.
A quick aside, some of the Brothers from the late
60's and early 70's had an impromptu gathering in San Francisco, CA.
in the past week. Brother Warren Welch, our excellent Web-master,
has posted a picture of the intrepid group on the Chapter web-site.
I trust all is well with everyone and my best to
you all.
