ALUMNI OPPORTUNITIES - GET INVOLVED!

Volunteer opportunities abound for Colorado area alumni. Assistance with fundraising is an important way you can show your commitment to the fraternity and its mission. In addition, there are several opportunities throughout the year which are available for those interested in helping Theta Chi in this way.

Listed below are descriptions of the many volunteer opportunties that exist to assist in the development of our chapter and undergraduate and alumnus brothers. Theta Chi’s volunteers, whether they are alumni, parents, or university officials play a vital role in the continued success of our brotherhood.

Alumni Corporation

The Alumni Corporation is the administrative and executive head of the Gamma Lambda Chapter, it's alumni, and other Colorado area alumni. It is composed of ten members in three wings: the Executive (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer), Advisory (Alumni Advisor, Financial Advisor, and Legal Advisor), and Planning and Development (Director of Social Events, Director of Communication, and Director of Fundraising). The Chapter Resident Advisor and Chapter President attend meetings, but are not voting members. Membership is decided by election from the alumni brotherhood and is not restricted to Gamma Lambda alumni or Theta Chi alumni. The members are volunteers. Meetings are held monthly in the Leo Block Alumni Center on the University of Denver campus. Elections are held each June.

Alumni Corporation Committees

The Alumni Corporation may establish committees to assist in the operation of the Fraternity and to address specific issues, concerns, or needs. The committees also provide opportunities for alumnus members to become involved in the Fraternity and to share time and expertise on behalf of Theta Chi.

Theta Chi Summer Send-Off Parties

Each summer the we look to organize "summer send-off" parties for the new DU students in their respective communities. They are hosted in cities throughout the country by alumnus brothers and parents of a current undergraduate brother. This is a great opportunity to meet new and incoming DU undergraduate students and begin to educate them about joining Greek Life and the benefits of the Theta Chi experience at the University of Denver.

Become a Big Brother

As always, we aim to create stronger bonds between alumni and undergraduate brothers and foster connections to the undergraduate chapter. Becoming a Big Brother to an undergraduate brother is a great way to mentor and advise them in their academic and career development. Click here for tips on what it means to be a Big Brother.

Benefits of Becoming a Big Brother

  • Renew Old Friendships
  • Create new friendships
  • Gain/apply professional experiences
  • Encourage/find talent
  • Provide affordable housing and leadership training to undergraduates
  • Introduce undergraduates to a life of learning and growth
  • “Pay it Forward”
  • “Give a man a fish”

Alumni Story Days

Stories of our past experiences as undergraduate brothers are one of the many unique bonds that keep us coming together. Whether it was at a chapter event or simply a spontaneous occasion, the stories we tell time and time again are what make our family unique in every way. It is in this spirit that we invite local alumni to come back to the chapter house and share the stories that have survived the test of time to our new member classes.

Each academic quarter (fall, winter, and spring), the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity recruits new members for its rich brotherhood. As part of their new member education process, we welcome involvement from our local alumni in order to demonstrate that Theta Chi is more than involvement as an undergraduate. So often we are apt to hear "I was a Theta Chi." Brotherhood does not end after graduation; rather, a different season is entered.

Join us in demonstrating the lasting effects of our brotherhood through sharing moments from your experience as a brother in Theta Chi Fraternity. To get involved, please email our current Marshal, Brother James King.

Professional Development Workshops

Numerous opportunities exist for alumni, parents, and faculty to share their personal and professional experiences. Opportunities such as conducting academic seminars (current issues, politics, leadership development), conducting professional development workshops (resume writing, interview skills, financial planning), attending recruitment events, assisting with ritual ceremonies, or being a Big Brother are a great way to get involved.

Faculty Involvement

We strongly believe in the holistic education of the brother, and as part of that, we hope to foster strong student to faculty interactions. Because of Theta Chi’s emphasis on scholarship, as evidenced by our motto, “Alma Mater first, and Theta Chi for Alma Mater,” we aim to increase faculty and student involvement through seminars at the chapter house.

Examples of Seminars

  • Finances
  • Group and Team Effectiveness
  • Group Methods and Facilitation
  • Negotiation
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Identity Development
  • Privilege in Higher Education
  • Conflict Resolution

Ammi Hyde Interviews

At the University of Denver , each applicant is required to participate in the unique Ammi Hyde Interview. Named after an influential DU professor, the Hyde Interview is just one component of DU’s commitment to personal attention. By taking the time to meet personally with each applicant, faculty, staff, and alumni volunteers learn about the personal qualities and experiences that aren’t necessarily reflected in test scores, GPAs and essays.

The Hyde Interview is used to learn more about each applicant, to determine whether they will benefit from and contribute to academic and community life at DU. They take place in over 30 cities across the country. Interviews last about 20 minutes. The atmosphere is relaxed, and questions, which have no right or wrong answers, are designed to give applicants a voice to their application.

To volunteer for the Ammi Hyde Interviews, click here. You will need your DU ID and PIN. If you do not have both of these, please call (800) 525-9495 or (303) 871-2036.
